Squarespace Review (2024): Pricing, Pros & Cons

I’d like to think that SquareSpace worked before it pushed through updates to 7.1, but the site is so badly organized that it makes software from 1990 look insanely functional and well-designed. To manage your email domains–easy to manage with Strikingly.com–you have to use Google Workspace, but, if you need to alter a password or username, Google Workspace redirects your request to SquareSpace, since its the vendor of your domain name. Back in SquareSpace, its guidelines advise you to make these changes within SquareSpace, rather than Google Workspace–except that its redirects take you to the Google Workspace Admin panel, which then tells you that only your reseller, SquareSpace, can address the issue. The SquareSpace bot and their user videos reflect earlier versions of SquareSpace, rather than the current version. Impossible to get hold of even a Chat Bot that’s minimally useful, let alone even a whisper of a link to a human. I’m terrified to shift my domain because, even with a reasonably responsive but highly limited web platform like Strikingly.com, I kept hearing from customer service that transfers of my domain name could take several weeks… only to discover that I had to call, get a human on the phone, and ask them to verify that no one at Strikingly.com had actually released the domain name after I entered all the requisite changes to the DNS. That process thus took two bloody months. In contrast, SquareSpace seems to have no humans employed there, although I’d like to imagine that AI would’ve delivered a much better UX than what the company offers users.

Absolute garbage, connecting your domain fails, no customer support just links to never ending articles and a bot that also only replies with said links. Avoid!

I can not believe how awful this system is. just so incredibly limited and nothing works how it should. Unreal! I payed a year subscription sadly…Huge regret. I would not choose it even for free.

I wish I read these before launching my business website with SS. Now I’m stuck with it. What a nightmare. Simple Formatting for emails and pages on the site TAKE HOURS because the formatting constantly just does whatever it wants. SS is well aware, and does NOTHIng but blame the user Now, the best I can do is implore you to NOT use this service

Spent hours setting up my business webpage through Squarespace which seemed decently intuitive and the page was looking nice. When I went to do a test checkout, Taxjar could not get the correct tax rate for my Nexus location in CO, or could it collect the sales tax for any of my mock destination addresses above the 2.9% CO State tax. In CO, a business has to collect the full sales tax for each location a package is sent. A true pain and terribly complex, but never-the-less the law. I relied on Taxjar to do it right because that’s how Squarespace advertised it, “for any address location”. I purposely signed up for Commerce Basic to get Taxjar and thought great, problem solved! But no dice! Taxjar even confirmed by that horrible, back and forth of true miscommunication emailing that it can’t get anything more than the state sales tax outside my physical location. I’m not about to cover the rest of the tax with my minimal profit, so I emailed Squarespace about the problem to see if I was missing something and, true to other negative reviews, received dead silence from them. I was still within the 14 day grace period, so sadly canceled for a full refund. Frustrating, disappointing and a waste of my time! So, if you’re selling product, check your cart sooner than later to see if the sales tax collection works correctly.
